Success criteria

When the duo is able to work together to move the object 25 metres

Environment/Space/Equipment

In deep water, a swimming lane with weighted hoops at the bottom of the pool.

Group management

Two pupils work together to move the object underwater, while a third pupil ensures the swimmers' safety.

Time/Duration/Schedule

The exercise requires at least 3 attempts, with a minimum of 3 minutes' rest between each attempt. 

Pre-requisites

 To complete this exercise, pupils must be able to swim 5 metres underwater in a straight line.

Description

The instructor explains the rules of the game, which consists of two students taking turns to carry a weighted ring 25 meters underwater. When passing the object, both students have their heads submerged. When moving, the student carrying the ring must pass through the hoops placed at the bottom.

Key teaching points to support student learning:
Use breaststroke underwater, with large arms movement
Communicate with your teammate and discuss at the end to improve the strategy
Anticipate respiratory fatigue of your teammate
When swimming on the surface, recover so that you are ready to relay your partner.
