I CAN construct a parcours independently with a group that corresponds to our ability level and successfully complete it.
I KNOW the risks and potential obstacles on the course that could be challenging for me or other group members.
The learning group is divided into two groups. The children have to build a parcours in the small group that suits the skills of the group. They may use all the available materials. Everyone completes the parcours and then they swap with the parcours of the other small group.
Depending on the level of ability, the task can take place in the non-swimmer's pool or in the deep pool. It all depends on the materials and the ability level of the children.
A wide variety of equipment can be used. The picture shows only a small selection of pool noodles, diving rings, diving gates, boards, etc. All available materials can be used so that the children can build the parcours.
There should be enough space so that the parcours has a suitable length and several swimming tasks can be completed in succession.
This task should be carried out by two large groups. Depending on the conditions of the swimming pool, the course can be laid out in a circle (as shown in the photo), in a line or in another shape.
The parcours is created through a group work. Each child swims the parcours individually.
This task should be given sufficient time. The children must first coordinate with the group (approx. 3-5 min), set up the course (approx. 3-5 min) and then complete it (5-10 min). The other course is then completed (5-10 min). In a final reflection, difficulties and opportunities can be highlighted and the children's cooperative behaviour can be discussed
The children must have a basic ability to dive, breathe, propulsion and jumping. Furthermore, the children must cooperate and communicate with each other.
The children are divided into two groups. In the group, the children are given various materials (diving rings, diving gates, mats, pool noodles, boards, etc.). They are given time to create the course together and swim it.
When the group is finished, the groups switch courses and swim the other group's course.
Challenges and opportunities are discussed in a follow-up reflection. Furthermore, the children's ability to cooperate and communicate is scrutinised during the reflection phase.
