Group size:
Single,Pairs,Small group (<10),Big group (>10)
Task design:

Goal

I DO diving.
I CAN submerse my body and orientate myself underwater without using goggles.
I CAN hold my breath under water.

Success criteria

The child has met the success criteria if they can grab all 3 toys underwater in one breath, without holding their nose or using goggles, while being comfortable.

Environment/Space/Equipment

Start with shallow water swimming pool or outside where children can stand (water to the hip or bellybutton).
Space requirements: approximately 2x2 meters per child.
Equipment: 3 diving toys per child (rings/sticks, etc.)

Group management

Group size: Single, Pairs, Small group (<10), Big group (>10)

Spread the children around the shallow end of the pool.
If there is a big dissimilar level in competence, advanced can be at deeper water or more novices can start by picking (rings) up with their feet.
The teacher/instructor guarantees safety by always seeing all children and using shallow water.

Time/duration/schedule

1-5’ to 5’-15’

Part of the lesson can be the initial, main or final part

Pre-requisite

Water habituation, Submersion, Breath holding, Orientation underwater, Underwater swimming.

Description

Task design: Exercise

Teaching style: Explorative (child-centered)

Instruction: You will submerge/dive down to the bottom of the pool, orientate yourself underwater and pick up three toys from the bottom.

Differentiation/progression: Pick up with feet, pick up 1-2-3 items, place toys closer or further away from each other, pick up at deeper water. F.ex. in pairs of two children, they can hide each other’s toys.

Instructor can be inside or outside the pool, depending on the level and number of children.
