Goal

I CAN lead a blindfolded person around in the water.

Success criteria

Leading the blind person safely to the mat and placing the ball on the mat.
Earing the pair/team a point.
Playing and communicating well in pairs/teams.

Environment/Space/Equipment

Environment: Shallow or/to (deep) water swimming pool, but also outside.
A predefined area.

Space requirements: not specific (app. 12.5 x 5 meters (depending on pool and group size).
Predefined area but does not require to be restricted.

Equipment: 1 ball, 2 mats (more for variation).

Group management

Group size: Pairs, Small group (<10), Big group (>10)
Divide the children into pairs (and further into teams)
Similar or dissimilar level of competence.

Movement within the predefined area.

Instructor outside the pool overseeing the game.

Safety is guaranteed by the teacher/instructor always seeing all children and the activity is in shallow water. In deep water, further safety is required by the children.

Time/duration/schedule

5’-15’, Part of the lesson can be the main or final part.

Water habituation, Orientation, Combination of tasks, Strategies, Safety knowledge, Confidence, Cooperation.

Description

Task design: Game, Teaching style: Explorative (child-centred)

Instruction: Divide the group in two teams, in each of the two teams all children will be coupled in pairs.

In the pair one is blindfolded and the other shall help the blindfolded to score goal with a ball.

Only the blindfolded person can touch the ball and score a goal. And the child leading will have to communicate with their partner and the other children how to lead their partner through the area.

Progression: Every blindfolded person on the team must touch the ball before a goal can be scored. The ball must be thrown into the goal.
